Hilltop Fire grows to 72 acres in Gila National Forest

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – A wildfire began burning west of the west side road in Cherry Canyon in the Lincoln National Forest Thursday, July 16. The Cherry Fire is about 7.5 miles from High Rolls, New Mexico, and is burning mostly ponderosa pine.

Fire officials report crews have completed firing operations on the West Side Road that helped to contain the fire on the southern, eastern, and northern flanks. On Monday, July 20, crews will continue to monitor fire activity and will work to complete fire lines on the northwestern side.
